How does a weighted blanket benefit you?
Fuzzy Calm Weighted Blankets provide you with gentle weighted pressure which boosts calmness, relaxation, concentration, and focus. They aid in sensory satisfaction helping the user's body transition into a calm and relaxed state.
The weighted blankets can be used by those experiencing anxiety, poor sleep, restlessness, or irritability or simply to make you feel content.
The blankets mimic the same sensation as being hugged or held, they simply feel wonderful!
What are the dimensions of the Fuzzy Calm weighted blankets?
The weighted lap blankets come in 2 weights:
1.3kg (70cm x 60cm) and 2.2kg (70cm x 60cm)
The weighted throw blankets come in 2 weights with a gorgeous hexagon pattern:
4.8kg (190cm x 120cm) and 7kg (190cm x 120cm)
What weight blanket should I buy?
You might think, “the heavier, the better.” However, this is not always true. Your body can feel even the smallest changes in weight.
We recommend weighted blankets being around 5-12% of your body weight however this can vary from person to person. It should feel comfortable and snug when being used, for this reason you may prefer a heavier or lighter blanket than recommended. Some people prefer to have just enough weight to provide a gentle calming hug like pressure. It is fine for the blanket to be under 5% of your body weight. But for safety, it is important to avoid going over unless advised by a medical professional.
Please consult a medical professional if you are unsure. Those with pre-existing medical conditions should consult their doctor / therapist for advice on whether a weighted blanket is suitable for them.
For weighted lap blankets:
Weighted lap blankets are smaller in size than a regular sized blanket, so the weight is spread over a smaller area enabling the user to achieve good results from a lap blanket that is less than the recommended body weight percentage.
- 1.3kg lap blanket - recommended weight of user 11 - 26kg
- 2.2kg lap blanket - recommended weight of user 18 – 90kg (this can be enjoyed by an adult requiring gentle calming hug like pressure).
For weighted throw blankets:
- 4.8kg throw blanket - recommended weight of user 40 - 96kg
- 7kg throw blanket - recommended weight of user 58 – 110+kg
What are Fuzzy Calm blankets made from:
Fuzzy Calm weighted blankets are made with top quality materials and they have 7 different layers of high technology sewing and stitching. They are made with 100% cotton or super soft plush minky fabric on the one side and super soft plush minky dot fabric on the other side. The blankets are filled with certified non-toxic and glass microbeads which are sewn into segmented pouches for maximum flexibility, strength and comfort.
The glass microbeads are very fine and have no sharp edges that could disturb you. They are also silent!
Is it safe to wash my weighted blanket?
Yes! To enable your blanket last, we ask that you please hand wash the blankets in cold water with a mild detergent and then air dry. You will notice that handwashing is recommended on the care label – this is for longevity purposes!
We have, however, tested these blankets in the washing machine and they still come out super on a cold delicate / gentle cycle. This is only if your machine can take the weight. We do recommend that you machine wash only when necessary and when doing so, it is recommended that you use a washing bag.
Please do not tumble dry or iron and please do not use fabric softener.
Are the weighted blankets suitable for young children?
We do not recommend for children under 3 years old. Blankets should only be used by children who are able to remove their blanket independently.
Can I claim my purchase through my NDIS plan?
With your therapist's recommendation, self-managed and plan managed participants may be eligible to purchase items relevant to the goals set on your NDIS plan. Prior to purchasing your blanket please contact NDIS directly to see if you are eligible to claim the product. Purchasing through our website will automatically generate an invoice which will be emailed to you for the purposes of your claim.
